Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is a best practice training developed by LivingWorks which provides people with skills to help prevent the immediate risk of suicide.

To date, approximately 500 people in Nunavut have participated in the two-day, highly interactive, practical Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) workshop. Anyone can take this suicide intervention training, which consists of small group discussions and skills practice based upon adult learning principles.

The Partners involved in implementing the Nunavut Suicide Prevention Strategy have worked with LivingWorks to create adapted ASIST materials for Nunavut (called “Uqaqatigiiluk!” or “Talk About It!”). This adapted Nunavut ASIST course model allows Nunavummiut to take suicide intervention training on an ongoing basis in Inuktitut and English.

The adapted training also includes videos and materials created in a local context in collaboration with Nunavummiut.
