Talking to Children About Suicide

The Talking to Children about Suicide workshop was developed in response to a number of requests from community members who wanted to know how best to support children who have experienced a death by suicide in their family, friend group, or wider social circle. This workshop aims to provide community members with information about:

It is recommended, but not mandatory, that participants first gain confidence in talking about suicide
by attending a suicide intervention training such as Reach Out or ASIST/Uqaqtigiiluk!. As it is a
half-day workshop, it can be offered on the same day as Reach Out if desired.

Training Process and Resources

Talking to Children about Suicide is a half-day workshop. The session includes a presentation, group
discussions, a podcast episode, and a list of resources that could be helpful before or after a
conversation with a child.
