An important day for those who care for their well-being, desire to celebrate and promote life with community members on September 10th.

This day is also known as World Suicide Prevention Day.

During this time of the year, we invite Nunavummiut to gather together to celebrate life, honour and remember the lives of our loves ones, and show comfort to one another for those who need support.

It is our hope for Nunavummiut to:

  • Recognize moments life can be celebrated
  • Inspire self-care and wellness activities for ones self and others
  • Become aware of resources and ways to support the community
  • Empower community members seeking positive change
  • Invite conversations to help bring down barriers or create solutions
  • Foster hope and healing for those who are grieving
  • Honour and remember the lives of loved ones
  • Support survivors and for survivors to become supporters
  • Reflect on the strength that every community holds
  • Connect with community members who may have feelings of distress, and
  • Encourage individuals who are struggling to reach out

Embrace Life Day Activities by IIKELC

Every year, we organize a series of events during the week of September 10 to celebrate what we call “Embrace Life Week“.

Some events during the week are focused around our hope for community members to heal, gain support, and feel a sense of relief from heavy emotions. Other events are created simply to encourage everyone to practice wellness activities, and to celebrate or promote life.

We have organized annual activities across Nunavut. They are usually formed from the best interests of our community members.
